lyrics
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; With my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations. For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You will establish in the very heavens.” “I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant: ‘Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.’” Selah. The heavens shall praise Your wonders, O Lord, Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints. For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints And to be held in reverence by all who are around Him. O Lord God of hosts, who is a mighty Lord like You? Or to Your faithfulness round about You? You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them. You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one slain; You have scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm. The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; As for the world and its fullness, You have founded them. The north and the south You have created them; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Your name. You have a mighty arm; Strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face. Blessed is the people who know the joyful sound; They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all the day, And in Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, And in Your favor our horn is exalted. For the Lord is our defense; The Holy One of Israel is our King.

Psalm 89A: I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord Forever
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You can want to declare what you actually believe about God — full-volume, no hedging — but find that practiced praise has a hard time landing in your heart. The hard part is the courage to make the same declaration on Tuesday morning when nobody is listening.
You want a vow that lives past the moment — the kind of declaration that holds when feelings catch up.
What It Means
This one opens with a vow that is meant to outlast the moment: "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations." That is a commitment to keep speaking truth across decades and across audiences. Then the foundation is laid in God's own words: "I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant: 'Your seed I will establish forever, and build up your throne to all generations.'" The praise has roots in promise.
From there the camera widens to take in the whole created order: heavens praise, the assembly of the saints reverences Him, even the raging sea is ruled by Him. "You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one slain... the heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours." There is no rival here.
Then the line that should change how you praise: "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face." This is what God's reign is built on — righteousness, justice, mercy, truth, all moving together. "Blessed is the people who know the joyful sound." Knowing what He is actually like is what frees the praise to come out steady.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, declare out loud one specific thing you believe about God's mercy — and let it be a vow, not a feeling.
• Write this down: "Where do I praise Him in safe rooms but stay quiet in the rooms where it would actually cost me?"
• Repeat this line when feelings dim: "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let the foundation of His throne — righteousness, justice, mercy, truth — settle under your praise, then tell Him what you want your declaration to outlast — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, I want to declare Your mercies in a way that lasts longer than my mood.
You are the One whose covenant does not break and whose throne does not wobble.
Build my praise on what is true about You — righteousness, justice, mercy, truth — not on what I feel today.
Teach me the joyful sound, and let me walk in the light of Your face all day long.
Be the glory of my strength, because nothing else has earned that role.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
