Darkness may be loud, but God's light still tells the truest story.
lyrics
The transgression of the wicked speaks within my heart: “There is no fear of God before his eyes.” He flatters himself in his own eyes Until his iniquity is found to be hateful. The words of his mouth are nothing but iniquity and deceit; He has ceased to be wise, ceased to do good. He devises mischief while lying on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good; He does not hate evil. But Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness stands like the mighty mountains; Your judgments are like the great deep. O Lord, You preserve both man and beast. How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men find refuge In the shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill from the abundance of Your house; You give them drink from the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. O continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart. Let not the foot of pride come against me, Let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. See there—the workers of iniquity have fallen! They are cast down and shall not be able to rise.

Psalm 36: In Your Light We See Light
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You can get discouraged watching darkness move so confidently. Lies sound smooth, pride looks rewarded, and people seem unbothered by what harms others. If you stare at it too long, your heart starts shrinking into cynicism.
Then you feel the pull inside too — not always dramatic evil, just low-grade numbness. You stop expecting goodness to break through, and everything starts looking dim.
What It Means
This one starts by naming how corruption works: no fear of God, self-flattery, deceit, and stubborn refusal to hate evil. It is honest about the shadow. But it does not stay there. It diagnoses the inner workings of compromise — "There is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes, when he finds out his iniquity and when he hates." The portrait is uncomfortably specific: cooked-up self-deception, plotting at night, refusing to walk away from evil even when it is named.
It pivots hard into who God is: "Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep." That contrast is the point. Evil feels loud but it is not ultimate. "How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, and You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light." When your vision gets dark, His presence restores clarity. Light here is not just information; it is what makes seeing possible at all.
Right Here, Right Now
• Spend few moments right now naming one dark pattern you are seeing, then intentionally thank God for one evidence of His mercy.
• Write this down: "Where has cynicism dimmed my ability to see His light?"
• Repeat this line when your thoughts spiral: "In Your light we see light."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let His mercy widen your perspective where darkness has felt loud, then tell Him exactly where you need fresh clarity today — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, I am tired of how loud darkness feels around me and in me.
Keep me from self-flattery, numbness, and quiet compromise.
Thank You that Your mercy is higher than what I can see and Your faithfulness is not fragile.
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings and give me drink from Your life-giving presence.
In Your light, help me see clearly again and walk as someone who still trusts You.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
Darkness may be loud, but God's light still tells the truest story.
