Love that has reasons holds longer than love that is just a feeling.
lyrics
I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice And my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. The sorrows of death surrounded me, And the pains of the grave laid hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul.” Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He helped me. Return to your rest, O my soul, For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord In the land of the living. I believed, therefore I spoke: “I was greatly afflicted.” I said in my haste, “All men are liars.” What shall I render to the Lord For all His benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation And call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord Now in the presence of all His people. Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints. O Lord, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant; You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving And will call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord Now in the presence of all His people, In the courts of the Lord’s house, In the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 116: He Heard Me
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You can be in love with God for the longest time and still struggle to articulate why. Then a moment comes — something specific He did, a prayer He answered, a place He pulled you out of — and the love locates itself. It is no longer abstract. It is a particular moment with a particular God who heard a particular cry.
You do not need vague gratitude. You need to say "I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice" and mean a specific instance.
What It Means
This prayer opens with the line that names the whole testimony: "I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live." Love that has reasons. A specific event — He inclined His ear — that built a lifelong commitment. Then the honesty about what he had been through: "The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the pains of the grave laid hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of the Lord: 'O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul.'" He thought he was going down.
Then the rescue line: "Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yes, our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He helped me. Return to your rest, O my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you." He is talking to himself again — telling his own soul to come home and rest. The middle is brutal in its honesty about what almost broke him: "I said in my haste, 'All men are liars.'" He admits to the cynicism that crept in during the worst of it. He is not pretending he was steady the whole way through.
The close turns into vow: "What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people." Specific gratitude becomes public testimony.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, name one specific moment when the Lord heard your voice — and follow it with: "I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice."
• Write this down: "What deliverance have I received that has not yet become public testimony?"
• Repeat this line when love feels generic: "Return to your rest, O my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let the specific memory of being heard locate the love that has been floating. Then tell Him exactly what you want to render for what He has done — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, I love You because You have heard my voice — and I want to name the moment instead of leaving it generic.
You inclined Your ear to me when I was brought low and helped me when I had no leverage.
Return my soul to its rest, because You have dealt bountifully with me.
Forgive me for the haste in which I once said all men were liars — even the cynicism You met me in.
Let me take the cup of salvation, pay my vows in the presence of Your people, and call on Your name as long as I live.
You're still my Shepherd.
