lyrics
O Lord, our Lord How excellent is Your name in all the earth You have set Your glory above the heavens From the mouths of children and infants You have established strength Because of Your enemies To silence the foe and the avenger When I gaze at Your heavens The work of Your fingers The moon and the stars You have set in place What is man that You are mindful of him The son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than the angels And crowned him with glory and honor You gave him dominion over the works of Your hands You put all things under his feet All sheep and oxen The beasts of the field The birds of the air The fish of the sea And all that swim the paths of the seas O Lord, our Lord How excellent is Your name in all the earth

Psalm 8: O Lord, Our Lord
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You ever have one of those moments where life finally gets quiet for a second — maybe driving at night, maybe standing outside, maybe just staring at the sky — and you suddenly feel both tiny and known at the same time? The stars are doing their thing, the world keeps spinning, and you wonder why your little life even matters in all this.
That is the exact moment this one sits in. It looks up at God's greatness and still comes back down with your worth intact.
What It Means
David starts and ends the same way: "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth." The whole thing is wrapped in wonder. He looks at the moon and stars and asks the honest question: "What is man that You are mindful of him?" That is not forced humility — that is real perspective in front of a massive God.
But it does not stop at smallness. It says God made humanity "a little lower than the angels" and crowned us with "glory and honor." That means your life is not random and your presence is not an accident. You are not the center of everything, but you are deeply seen inside it. It gives you both at once: awe that humbles you, and dignity that steadies you.
Notice what gets handed to small humans here: not a corner of the universe but a kind of stewardship over it — sheep and oxen, beasts of the field, birds, fish, "whatever passes along the paths of the seas." That is a lot of trust to give a creature who can barely hold his own life together on a Tuesday. And it starts with the line that should not fit anywhere else: "Out of the mouth of babies and infants You have established strength." Praise from the smallest places. Dignity given by gift, not earned. The bookend repeats on purpose — "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth" — like he cannot help saying it twice.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, look out a window — or up at the sky if you are already outside — and pray this line out loud slowly: "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth."
• Write this down: "Where have I been living like I am either everything — or nothing?"
• Repeat this line when insecurity or ego spikes: "What is man that You are mindful of him?"
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let these lines widen your heart in wonder, then tell Him where you need both humility and significance today.
Prayer
God, Your world is bigger than I can fathom, and Your name is higher than I can understand.
When I feel small in the worst way, remind me I am still seen by You.
When I get proud and self-focused, bring me back to wonder.
Thank You for giving me dignity without making me the center.
Teach me to walk through today with humility and confidence at the same time.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
Under the same sky that humbles you, He still remembers your name.
