summary
You may stumble, but you are still held by the One who orders your steps.
lyrics
The wicked borrow and do not repay, But the righteous show mercy and give. For those blessed by Him will inherit the earth, And those cursed by Him will be cut off. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he will not be utterly cast down, For the Lord upholds him with His hand. I have been young, and now I am old, Yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his children begging bread. He is ever merciful and lends; His descendants are blessed. Depart from evil and do good, And you will dwell forever. For the Lord loves justice And will not forsake His saints. They are preserved forever, But the seed of the wicked will be cut off. The righteous will inherit the land And dwell in it forever. The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip.

Psalm 37C: Ordered Steps
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
Life can feel shaky even when you are trying to do right. You are not perfect, but you are trying to walk clean, stay generous, and keep your heart steady. Then you stumble, miss a step, or face another setback, and fear whispers that maybe you are on your own after all.
You also see people cutting corners and still getting ahead, which makes faithfulness feel slow and costly.
What It Means
This passage anchors you in something deeper than momentum: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord... though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholds him with His hand." Falling is possible; forsaken is not.
Then comes lived testimony: "I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken." It keeps tying righteousness to mercy, generosity, justice, wisdom, and a heart shaped by God's law. This is not fragile goodness. It is sustained, preserved life under God's care. The promise is not that nothing hard happens — the promise is that when you fall, it is not forever, because He is the One who picks you back up.
Tucked in the middle is a quiet detail worth noticing: "The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of justice. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide." The reason the steps stay ordered is not external. It is internal — God's word lodged where decisions get made. And the closing line widens the whole frame: "The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them… because they trust in Him." Not because they earned it. Because they trusted Him. That is the whole point this passage keeps coming back to.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, ask God to order one specific decision in front of you, and take one faithful next step.
• Write this down: "Where do I fear being forsaken when I fail or move slowly?"
• Repeat this line when insecurity rises: "Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let His steady hand quiet your fear of falling, then tell Him exactly where you need ordered steps today — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, thank You that my steps are not random when I belong to You.
When I fall short, keep me from spiraling into shame and fear.
Uphold me with Your hand and teach me to keep walking in mercy, justice, and truth.
Guard me from envy when I see others prosper through compromise.
Order my steps today and preserve my heart so I do not slip away from You.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
You may stumble, but you are still held by the One who orders your steps.
