lyrics
Hear the right, O Lord Attend to my cry Give ear to my prayer That rises from lips that are true Let my vindication come from Your presence Let Your eyes behold what is just and right You have examined my heart You have visited me in the night You have tested me and found nothing I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress As for the works of men By the word of Your lips I have kept myself from the paths of the destroyer Hold up my steps in Your paths That my footsteps may not slip I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God Incline Your ear to me and hear my words Show Your marvelous lovingkindness O You who save by Your right hand Those who put their trust in You From those who rise up against them Keep me as the apple of Your eye Hide me under the shadow of Your wings From the wicked who oppress me From my deadly enemies who surround me They are enclosed in their own fat With their mouth they speak proudly They have now surrounded us in our steps They have set their eyes bowing down to the earth Like a lion greedy for his prey Like a young lion lurking in secret places Arise, O Lord—disappoint him Cast him down Deliver my soul from the wicked, who is Your sword From men who are Your hand, O Lord From men of the world Whose portion is in this life Whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure They are full of children And leave their abundance to their babes As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness I shall be satisfied when I awake with Your likeness

Psalm 17: Hear the Right
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
Sometimes the hardest part is being misunderstood while trying to stay clean. You know your motives are not perfect, but you also know you are not lying, not scheming, not trying to harm anyone — and still you get treated like the problem. It wears you down. You replay conversations, defend yourself in your head, and wonder if truth even matters when loud voices keep controlling the narrative.
You are not weak for feeling cornered. You are carrying pressure and still trying not to lose your soul in it.
What It Means
It opens with a direct plea: "Hear the right, O Lord… give ear to my prayer that rises from lips that are true." This is a cry for justice from someone who has already let God search him in the night. "You have tested me and found nothing" is not self-righteous swagger — it is honest surrender to scrutiny.
Then the language gets intimate: "Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings." Surrounded by proud and predatory people, he does not take revenge into his own hands. He asks God to act, to guard his steps, and to keep him from slipping into the same violence coming at him.
The close is steady and defiant: "As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness… I shall be satisfied when I awake with Your likeness." Even if people misread you, your deepest vindication is still found in His presence. And the picture in the middle names the predator clearly: "Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places." He is not vague about who is circling. The earlier line is the practical handle: "Hold up my goings in Your paths, that my footsteps slip not." Held footing under predator pressure — that is the ask.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, bring one specific situation where you feel falsely framed to God, and ask Him for protection before you answer anyone.
• Write this down: "Where do I need vindication — and where do I need God to keep my mouth clean?"
• Repeat this line when anxiety rises: "Keep me as the apple of Your eye."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let these words settle where you feel misread or surrounded, then tell Him exactly what you need Him to defend today — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, You see what is true when I feel misread and boxed in.
Search me again, and keep me honest where my heart is tempted to get bitter.
Guard my steps so I do not slip into pride, fear, or retaliation.
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings while this pressure is loud.
Be my vindication, and satisfy me with Your presence more than any human outcome.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
When people misjudge you, His eye is still on you and His hand is still over you.
