lyrics
Preserve me, O God For in You I put my trust O my soul, you have said to the Lord “You are my Lord; my goodness extends not to You” But to the saints who are in the earth To the excellent ones in whom is all my delight Their sorrows will be multiplied Who hasten after another god Their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out Nor take their names upon my lips The Lord is the portion of my inheritance And of my cup You maintain my lot The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places Yes, I have a beautiful heritage I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel My heart also instructs me in the night seasons I have set the Lord always before me Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved Therefore my heart is glad And my glory rejoices My flesh also will rest in hope For You will not abandon my soul to the grave Nor allow Your Holy One to see decay You will show me the path of life In Your presence is fullness of joy At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore

Psalm 16: Path of Life
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You can be surrounded by options and still feel restless. More choices, more voices, more things promising relief — and somehow your heart still feels unsettled. You try to secure your future, protect your peace, and keep your heart from drifting, but it is easy to end up split between trust and control.
You are not weak for feeling that tension. You are trying to find solid ground in a world that keeps offering substitutes.
What It Means
It begins with dependence: "Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust." Then it gets personal: "You are my Lord." That is a re-centering move. Not "I can hold this together," but "You hold me." It also draws a hard line about idols — chasing other gods multiplies sorrow, even when the shortcut looks attractive.
Then comes the steady core: "The Lord is the portion of my inheritance… You maintain my lot." Your life is not random and your future is not self-made chaos. "I have set the Lord always before me… I shall not be moved." The ending breathes confidence, not hype: "You will show me the path of life… in Your presence is fullness of joy." Joy is not found in frantic grasping; it is found in nearness.
Tucked between trust and confidence is a quiet line worth slowing for: "The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places." Gratitude shows up here as a settled habit, not a forced posture. Then: "My heart also instructs me in the night seasons." Even the dark hours are doing something steady in him. None of this is hype. It is a person finding the bottom of his life and discovering the bottom is held.
Right Here, Right Now
• Pause for 30 seconds right now and pray: "Preserve me, O God; I trust You" — before the next decision in front of you.
• Write this down: "What have I been treating like my real security besides You?"
• Repeat this line when anxiety spikes: "You will show me the path of life."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let these words settle the place where you feel pulled in ten directions, then tell Him exactly what you are afraid to trust Him with today — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, I keep trying to control what I cannot control, and it is exhausting me.
Preserve me, and pull my heart back to simple trust in You.
Cut off every false refuge I keep running to when I feel scared.
Be my portion, my stability, and my counsel when my thoughts start spiraling.
Set me on the path of life again, and teach me to rest in Your presence.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
When everything else shifts, His presence is still your safest place.
