summary

Tears in the sowing do not ruin the harvest — they prepare it.

lyrics

When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion,
We were like them that dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing.
Then said they among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us,
Whereof we are glad.

Turn again our captivity, O Lord,
As the streams in the south.

They that sow in tears
Shall reap in joy.
He that goes forth and weeps,
Bearing precious seed,
Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,
Bringing his sheaves with him.

Psalm 126: Filled With Laughter

When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.

What's Going On…

You can spend so long walking through hard ground that you have forgotten what laughter from your gut feels like. You laugh at jokes. You smile when expected. But the kind of laughter that comes when something impossible turns — that has been on hold longer than you realized. The Lord can turn captivity again — and when He does, the laughter that arrives feels like waking from a dream.

What It Means

This one opens with a memory of unexpected reversal: "When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing." Like dreamers — the deliverance felt unreal even while it was happening. The body responded with laughter and joyful sound before the mind had caught up. Then the public testimony: "Then said they among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.'" The nations watched and named it correctly. And the people inside the deliverance answered: "The Lord has done great things for us, whereof we are glad." Then the prayer for the next turning: "Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south." Streams in the south — picture dry riverbeds in the desert that flood when seasonal rains come. He is asking for that kind of sudden, abundant return. The close is the line everyone in long obedience needs: "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him." Tears now, sheaves later. The seed you are carrying through grief is precious — and the harvest is real.

Right Here, Right Now

• Right now, name one specific captivity you want the Lord to turn again — and pray: "Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south." • Write this down: "What seed am I carrying right now in tears that He will let me reap one day in joy?" • Repeat this line when the harvest feels far: "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."

Selah

Stop. Breathe. Let the memory of laughter from the gut return for a moment, then tell Him exactly where you need a turn that feels like waking from a dream — out loud if you can.

Prayer

God, when You turned again the captivity of Zion, Your people were like them that dream — and I want that kind of deliverance to feel possible again. Turn my captivity as the streams in the south flood the dry riverbeds. Let my mouth be filled with laughter, the kind that surprises me when it arrives. Let those who watch from the outside say, "The Lord has done great things for them," and let me answer back, "The Lord has done great things for us." I am sowing in tears today; let me reap in joy in Your time. You're still my Shepherd.

Stay Strong

Tears in the sowing do not ruin the harvest — they prepare it.
