lyrics

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits—
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord executes righteousness and justice
For all who are oppressed.
He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the children of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
He will not always chide,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
As a father pities his children,
So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
The wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place knows it no more.
But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children—
To such as keep His covenant,
And remember His commandments to do them.

The Lord has established His throne in the heavens,
And His kingdom rules over all.
Bless the Lord, you His angels,
Who excel in strength, who do His word,
Heeding the voice of His word.
Bless the Lord, all you His hosts,
You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.
Bless the Lord, all His works,
In all places of His dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Psalm 103: Bless the Lord, O My Soul

When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.

What's Going On…

You can have a heart full of gratitude and not know how to let it out. Real things have happened — sins forgiven, healings you did not earn, mercy that has not made sense — and you have not stopped long enough to bless Him for any of it. You move on too fast. You do not need a more complicated prayer. You need to stop and tell your own soul what it has been forgetting.

What It Means

This one is structured as a self-conversation. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits." David commands his soul before it feels like blessing. Then comes the list of benefits, dense and personal: "Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." Forgiveness, healing, redemption, kindness, satisfaction — all His. Then the mercy expands to the impossible: "As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us." That is a distance you can never travel back across. The line that catches you off guard is the tender one: "As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust." He knows what you are made of. He is not surprised by your weakness. His mercy lasts longer than your frame ever could. The close stretches to the angels and all His works: "Bless the Lord, all His works, in all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!" The opening returns at the end — a soul that finally listened to its own command and joined in.

Right Here, Right Now

• Right now, speak to your own soul out loud: "Bless the Lord, O my soul" — and follow it with one specific benefit you have been forgetting. • Write this down: "Which benefit have I been receiving without naming?" • Repeat this line when shame returns: "As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed my transgressions from me."

Selah

Stop. Breathe. Let forgiven, healed, redeemed, crowned land before you move on. Then tell Him exactly what you want to bless Him for — out loud if you can.

Prayer

Lord, with everything in me, I bless Your holy name. Forgive me for moving on so fast that gratitude never makes it out of my mouth. Thank You for forgiving all my iniquities, healing what I cannot heal, and crowning me with kindness I have not earned. You know my frame and remember I am dust — meet me there with mercy that does not run out. Renew my youth like the eagle's, not because I am young but because You are good. You're still my Shepherd.

Stay Strong

Tell your own soul to bless Him — your soul has been waiting to be told.
