summary

What He revived before, He can revive again — when mercy and truth meet.

lyrics

Lord, You have been favorable to Your land;
You have brought back the captivity of Jacob.
You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people;
You have covered all their sin. Selah.
You have taken away all Your wrath;
You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger.

Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
And cause Your anger toward us to cease.
Will You be angry with us forever?
Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?
Will You not revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?
Show us Your mercy, O Lord,
And grant us Your salvation.

I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace to His people,
To His saints—
But let them not turn again to folly.
Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
That glory may dwell in our land.

Mercy and truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Truth springs up from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
Yes, the Lord will give what is good,
And our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness will go before Him
And make His footsteps a way for us.

Psalm 85: Revive Us Again

When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.

What's Going On…

You can remember when God moved in a powerful way — in your life, in your community, in something He started — and feel the gap between what was alive then and what feels stalled now. You are not bitter. You are just tired of running on fumes from what He did before. Underneath the weariness is a hope you have been afraid to put words to: that He has not lost interest. That what He did before, He could do again.

What It Means

This one starts with memory of what God already did: "Lord, You have been favorable to Your land; You have brought back the captivity of Jacob. You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sin." The past tense is intentional — it happened. Then the cry pivots to now: "Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever?... Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?" The honesty is striking — anger is named, the long pause is named, the longing for revival is named without dressing it up. Then the listening posture: "I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints — but let them not turn again to folly." Peace is on the way, but it is not cheap. The closing image is one of the most beautiful in Scripture: "Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth springs up from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven." Heaven and earth bend toward each other. Revival is mercy and truth holding hands in the same room.

Right Here, Right Now

• Right now, ask God plainly — out loud — to revive one specific area of your life He once made alive. • Write this down: "Where am I waiting for revival but unwilling to listen for what He wants to speak?" • Repeat this line when restoration feels distant: "Mercy and truth have met together."

Selah

Stop. Breathe. Let the image of mercy and truth kissing settle the part of you that has been running on memory, then tell Him exactly where you need fresh life — out loud if you can.

Prayer

God, You have been favorable before, and I am asking again. Revive what feels stalled in me — not because I have earned it, but because You speak peace to Your people. Give me ears to hear what You want to say, and a heart that does not turn back to folly when You speak. Let mercy and truth meet in the places of my life that have been split between them. Make Your footsteps a way for me again, and let righteousness rise up from the ground I have been walking on. You're still my Shepherd.

Stay Strong

What He revived before, He can revive again — when mercy and truth meet.
