He keeps feeding you while you are still learning how to remember.

lyrics

The children of Ephraim, armed with bows,
Turned back in the day of battle.
They did not keep the covenant of God
And refused to walk in His law;
They forgot His works
And the wonders He had shown them.
Marvellous things He did in the sight of their fathers
In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
He divided the sea and let them pass through it;
He made the waters stand like a heap.
In the daytime He led them with a cloud,
And all the night with a fiery light.
He split rocks in the wilderness
And gave them drink abundantly as from the deep.
He brought streams also out of the rock
And caused waters to run down like rivers.

Yet they sinned still more against Him,
Provoking the Most High in the wilderness.
They tested God in their heart
By demanding the food they craved.
They spoke against God, saying,
“Can God spread a table in the wilderness?”
Behold, He struck the rock so that waters gushed out
And streams overflowed;
Can He also give bread?
Can He provide meat for His people?
Therefore the Lord heard this and was furious;
A fire was kindled against Jacob,
And His anger rose against Israel,
Because they did not believe in God
And did not trust in His salvation.
Yet He commanded the clouds above
And opened the doors of heaven,
And rained down manna for them to eat
And gave them the grain of heaven.
Man ate the bread of angels;
He sent them food in abundance.
He caused an east wind to blow in the heavens
And by His power brought in the south wind;
He rained meat on them like dust,
Winged birds like the sand of the sea;
He let it fall in the midst of their camp,
All around their dwellings.
So they ate and were well filled,
For He gave them their own desire;
But while their food was still in their mouths,
The anger of God came upon them
And killed the strongest of them
And struck down the chosen men of Israel.

Psalm 78B: They Forgot His Works

When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.

What's Going On…

You can see God do something specific for you — answered prayer, real provision, a door that opened — and three weeks later catch yourself complaining like none of it happened. You are not faking faith. You just notice how short your memory is when the next thing gets hard. Yesterday's bread does not quiet today's hunger. It can be unsettling to realize how fast you slide back into "Will He really come through?" right after watching Him come through. You do not want to live in that loop. You want to remember in a way that actually changes your reactions.

What It Means

This section is uncomfortable on purpose. Israel had seen the sea split, the cloud lead, water gush from the rock — and still: "They forgot His works and the wonders He had shown them." Then they tested God with their cravings, demanding bread and meat, asking sarcastically, "Can God spread a table in the wilderness?" The line that lands is heavy: "They did not believe in God and did not trust in His salvation." Their hearts kept defaulting to scarcity faster than gratitude could anchor them. And the thing that should leave you speechless is what comes next: He gave them manna anyway. "He commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven, and rained down manna for them to eat." Bread of angels for people who had just questioned whether He could even bring bread. Mercy showed up before the lesson sank in. This is your story too. You forget. He provides. You complain. He responds. The pattern does not excuse the forgetting — but it tells you He keeps feeding people whose memories are short. Before the manna there was water: "He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers." He has been splitting rocks and dropping bread out of the sky for people who keep asking "But can He?" The complaint never gets old; neither does the provision.

Right Here, Right Now

• Right now, name out loud one specific way God has provided for you in the last six months — and thank Him for it before your mind moves on to the next ask. • Write this down: "Where am I treating fresh provision like it is still not enough?" • Repeat this line when complaint rises: "He commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven."

Selah

Stop. Breathe. Sit with the gap between what He has actually done and what you have been feeling, then tell Him exactly where you want a longer memory — out loud if you can.

Prayer

God, my memory is shorter than Your faithfulness, and I see it again today. Forgive me for treating fresh mercy like background noise while I demand the next thing. Teach me to remember out loud, so my heart catches up to what is true. Thank You that You keep feeding people whose hearts keep wandering. Anchor me in what You have actually done, so trust does not have to be rebuilt every morning. You're still my Shepherd.

Stay Strong

He keeps feeding you while you are still learning how to remember.
