summary

When justice feels distant, keep praying and living like His righteous kingdom is still coming.

lyrics

Give the king Your judgments, O God,
And Your righteousness to the king’s son.
May he judge Your people with righteousness,
And Your afflicted with justice.
May the mountains bring peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
May he defend the poor of the people,
Save the children of the needy,
And crush the oppressor.

May they fear You as long as the sun and moon endure,
Throughout all generations.
May he come down like rain on the mown grass,
Like showers that water the earth.
In his days may the righteous flourish,
And abundance of peace until the moon is no more.

May he have dominion from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
May those who dwell in the wilderness bow before him,
And his enemies lick the dust.
May the kings of Tarshish and the coastlands bring tribute;
The kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.
Yes, may all kings fall down before him;
May all nations serve him.

For he will deliver the needy when he cries,
The afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
He will have compassion on the poor and needy,
And save the souls of the needy.
He will redeem their life from oppression and violence,
And precious will their blood be in his sight.

May he live long,
And may the gold of Sheba be given to him.
May prayer be made for him continually;
May blessings be spoken of him all day long.
May there be an abundance of grain in the land,
On the top of the mountains;
Its fruit will wave like Lebanon,
And those of the city will flourish like grass of the earth.
May his name endure forever;
May his name continue as long as the sun.
May men be blessed in him;
May all nations call him blessed.

Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who alone does wondrous things.
And blessed be His glorious name forever;
May the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen and Amen.
The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Psalm 72: From Sea to Sea

When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.

What's Going On…

You can get exhausted watching leadership fail people who need protection most. Power gets used for image, the vulnerable get pushed aside, and it feels like justice is always late. You want righteous leadership that actually heals people. At the same time, you carry a deeper ache for a world where peace is steady and compassion is normal. You want to believe that kind of reign is possible.

What It Means

This one is a prayer for a king shaped by God's own justice. It asks for righteousness, real defense of the poor, rescue for the needy, and the crushing of oppression. The vision is wide: peace like rain on dry ground, righteousness flourishing, compassion for those with no helper. Then it widens from local to global — dominion from sea to sea, nations serving, blessing spreading, the whole earth filled with God's glory. But the center stays relational and practical: "He will deliver the needy when he cries... precious will their blood be in his sight." This is what true authority looks like in God's eyes — strength used to protect. The close turns fully to worship because only God can establish that kind of kingdom in full. Two images give this prayer its shape. The first is rain: "He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth." Cut-down places get refreshment. That is what righteous rule does to people who have already been flattened. The second is the handful of grain: "There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon." A small handful planted on a hilltop where nothing should grow becomes forest-sized. The closing benediction lifts above any earthly throne: "Blessed be His glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen." Two amens because once is not enough.

Right Here, Right Now

• Right now, pray for one leader by name, asking God to form justice, compassion, and humility in them. • Write this down: "Where can I reflect God's care for the vulnerable in one concrete action today?" • Repeat this line when cynicism rises: "He will deliver the needy when he cries."

Selah

Stop. Breathe. Let your hunger for just leadership and lasting peace come into the light, then tell Him exactly where you need His kingdom to show up in your world — out loud if you can.

Prayer

God, I am tired of seeing power used without mercy or justice. Raise up leadership that protects the poor, defends the weak, and refuses oppression. Shape my own heart so I do not only criticize darkness, but carry Your compassion in real ways today. Let righteousness and peace grow where fear and exploitation have been normal. Fill this earth with Your glory, and make me faithful while I wait for Your full reign. You're still my Shepherd.

Stay Strong

When justice feels distant, keep praying and living like His righteous kingdom is still coming.
