lyrics
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; Yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I find shelter, Until these calamities have passed. I will cry out to God Most High, To God who fulfills His purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me— He will put to shame the one who would swallow me up. Selah. God will send forth His mercy and His truth. My soul is among lions; I lie down among those who breathe out fire— The sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be over all the earth. They have set a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down. They have dug a pit before me— Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make melody. Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I myself will awake the dawn. I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. For Your mercy is great, reaching to the heavens, And Your truth to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be over all the earth.

Psalm 57: In the Shadow of Your Wings
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You can wake up already bracing, like the threat never really turned off overnight. Pressure keeps circling, conversations feel loaded, and even quiet moments feel like they could break open into another hit. Your body is tired, but your nerves stay alert.
And underneath that alertness is a deeper ache: you need your heart to stay soft while the danger passes. You are asking for a place to hide without losing your ability to trust.
What It Means
This begins with repeated mercy and refuge: "Be merciful to me... in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, until these calamities pass." He names the danger directly: lions, fiery speech, nets, pits. This is survival faith in real threat.
Then the center holds both prayer and praise: "I will cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me... God will send forth His mercy and His truth." That line gives you ground when circumstances are unstable. By the end, his heart is called steadfast because worship rose in the middle of the battle. Refuge becomes resilience, and fear gives way to defiant praise.
Watch what he repeats in the middle of pressure: "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast." Twice. Like he is telling himself the truth until it lands. He commands his own glory to wake up — "I will praise You, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto You among the nations" — refusing to let fear set the volume of his worship. He even names the trap his enemies dug, then watches them fall into it themselves. The closing reach is wide: "Your mercy is great unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds." Refuge under wings is real, but the Refuge Himself fills the sky.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, tell God one current "calamity" by name, and ask specifically for refuge under His wings.
• Write this down: "Where do I need a steadfast heart instead of a panic response?"
• Repeat this line when you feel surrounded: "In the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let mercy and shelter reach the part of you that feels hunted, then tell Him exactly where your soul feels bowed down — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, be merciful to me because I feel pressed and tired.
You see the traps, the pressure, and the sharp words that keep circling me.
Hide me in the shadow of Your wings until this storm passes.
Send Your mercy and Your truth into this exact situation and keep me from panic.
Make my heart steadfast, so I can still worship You before the outcome changes.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
When pressure surrounds you, His shadow is still a real place to stand.
