He can hold your heart clean and your steps steady in a crooked day.

lyrics

Give ear to my words, O Lord
Consider my meditation
Hearken to the voice of my cry
My King and my God—for to You I pray

In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice
In the morning I will direct my prayer to You
And I will look up with expectation

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness
Evil cannot dwell in Your presence
The foolish cannot stand before Your eyes
You hate all who practice iniquity

You will destroy those who speak lies
The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man

But as for me, I will come into Your house
In the abundance of Your mercy
In reverence I will worship toward Your holy temple

Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness
Because of those who rise against me
Make Your way straight before my face

For there is no faithfulness in their mouth
Their inward part is pure wickedness
Their throat is an open grave
They flatter with their tongue

Destroy them, O God
Let them fall by their own schemes
Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions
For they have rebelled against You

But let all who take refuge in You rejoice
Let them shout for joy forever
Because You defend them
Let those who love Your name be glad in You

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous
With favor You will surround him as with a shield

Psalm 5: Give Ear to My Words

When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.

What's Going On…

You wake up already carrying it. Before your feet hit the floor, your mind is full — pressure, fake people, mixed motives, and the quiet fear that today will drain you again. You are trying to stay soft with God while staying guarded around people who twist words and play games. You do not want to become bitter, but you also do not want to be naive. Morning is not soft or pretty here. It is choosing God first before the day starts spinning and the mess starts talking.

What It Means

The first lines do not wait for you to feel spiritual: "Give ear to my words… hear the voice of my cry." That is dependence with the door still open to chaos. Then this: "In the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and I will look up." Alignment before the noise picks your mood for you. The middle does not flinch. Deceit, flattery, violence — named for what they are, never imitated. The ask is blunt: "Lead me, O Lord… make Your way straight before my face." Stay honest about darkness without letting it steer your feet. The ending is not a pep talk — God defends, blesses, and surrounds the righteous "as with a shield." Look at how he splits the day. Morning: "You will hear my voice; in the morning I will prepare a sacrifice for You and watch." That last word matters — he prays, then he watches. He expects an answer to walk into the rest of the hours. Evening: that closing image of being covered like a shield. The whole arc is held by Him. The middle — where the deceit and the games happen — gets framed but never gets to set the rules. "By Your abundant mercy I will enter Your house" sits in there too, almost casual, like he is surprised to still be welcomed in. Mercy is the only reason any of this works, and he knows it.

Right Here, Right Now

• Before you open your phone, pray this line out loud once: "In the morning I direct my prayer to You, and I look up with expectation." • Write this down: "Where am I tempted to become fake, hard, or defensive today?" • Repeat this line when pressure spikes: "Make Your way straight before my face."

Selah

Before you answer the first person or feed today, name one place you need His path to stay straight — then tell Him that, plain, out loud if you can.

Prayer

God, hear me this morning because I do not want to walk into today on autopilot. There is too much noise around me and too much noise in me. Keep me from lies, fake peace, and the urge to fight darkness with darkness. Lead me in Your righteousness and make my next steps clear. Be my shield today where I feel exposed and tired. You're still my Shepherd.

Stay Strong

He can hold your heart clean and your steps steady in a crooked day.
