lyrics
The king shall joy in Your strength, O Lord In Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice! You have given him his heart’s desire And have not withheld the request of his lips Selah For You meet him with blessings of goodness You set a crown of pure gold upon his head He asked life of You, and You gave it to him Length of days forever and ever His glory is great in Your salvation Honor and majesty You have bestowed upon him For You have made him most blessed forever You have made him exceedingly glad with Your presence For the king trusts in the Lord And through the mercy of the Most High He shall not be moved Your hand will find out all Your enemies Your right hand will find out those who hate You You will make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger The Lord will swallow them up in His wrath And the fire will devour them Their fruit You will destroy from the earth And their seed from among the children of men For they intended evil against You They devised a wicked plan they could not carry out Therefore You will make them turn their backs When You make ready Your arrows upon Your strings Against the face of them Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength So we will sing and praise Your power

Psalm 21: Joy in Your Strength
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
Sometimes you finally get through a hard stretch, and instead of instantly feeling peace, you feel disoriented. You prayed for help, strength, open doors, protection — and now you are looking at what God did and trying to process it. Part of you is grateful. Another part is still bracing for impact.
You also know how easy it is to take credit, move on fast, or forget who carried you. This is where your heart needs to slow down and remember.
What It Means
This opens in celebration: joy in God's strength, rejoicing in salvation, prayers answered, blessings given. It highlights that good gifts are not random outcomes — they are God's kindness. "You have given him his heart’s desire" and "You have made him exceedingly glad with Your presence." The deepest gift is not only what God gives, but God Himself.
Then it anchors the reason for stability: "For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved." Confidence is rooted in mercy, not in ego. The blessings named here are not generic luck either — "You meet him with the blessings of goodness; You set a crown of pure gold upon his head. He asked life from You, and You gave it to him." Asked, and received. Met, and crowned. It also does not ignore opposition. Evil plans still form, but they do not outrun God's justice. Stability here is not the absence of threat; it is the presence of mercy underneath the throne.
The ending turns upward: "Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength; so we will sing and praise Your power." Gratitude becomes worship. The shift is subtle but real — instead of cataloguing what was given, the focus moves to the Giver. That is what keeps blessing from rotting into entitlement.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, name one specific prayer God has answered recently, and thank Him out loud for it.
• Write this down: "Where am I tempted to take credit for what was actually grace?"
• Repeat this line when fear of losing ground returns: "Through the mercy of the Most High, I shall not be moved."
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let these words settle your need to self-protect, then tell Him exactly what you are thankful for and what you are still afraid of — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, thank You for carrying me and answering me in ways I did not earn.
Keep me from pride when things go well and from panic when things feel uncertain.
Help me trust Your mercy more than my own strength or performance.
Steady me where I am still bracing for trouble, even after You have been faithful.
Let my gratitude turn into real worship, because all strength and salvation come from You.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
What God carried you through is proof He can keep carrying you forward.
