The house was always the destination — and gladness still waits inside the gates.
lyrics
I was glad when they said unto me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Our feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built as a city That is compact together, Whither the tribes go up, The tribes of the Lord, Unto the testimony of Israel, To give thanks unto the name of the Lord. For there are set thrones of judgment, The thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: They shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, And prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, “Peace be within thee.” Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good.

Psalm 122: Your House
When you need to remember — that You're still my Shepherd.
What's Going On…
You can know about going to a place to be with God's people and feel like the prep is more weight than the destination. By the time you actually walk in, you are exhausted from getting there — the schedule, the people you had to navigate, the mental traffic that came with you. The room finally happens, and you do not feel "glad I came" the way you wanted to.
You do not need a different room. You need the part of you that says "I was glad when they said unto me, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord'" to come back online — and to remember that the house was always the destination.
What It Means
Pilgrims sang this prayer as they finished a long climb to Jerusalem and finally stood inside the gates. "I was glad when they said unto me, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord.' Our feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem." The gladness is foot-on-stone recognition.
Then comes the description of what made the city worth the climb: "Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, whither the tribes go up... unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord." Compact together. Tribes ascending. A whole nation oriented around the same name. That is why people walked for days.
Then the call to prayer: "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces." The pilgrim prays for the city. The destination becomes a place he carries forward. The close turns into commitment: "For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, 'Peace be within thee.' Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good." His love for the place becomes love for the people in it. Worship becomes work for the welfare of the city of God.
Right Here, Right Now
• Right now, name one specific gathering of God's people you belong to — and pray out loud: "Peace be within thy walls; because of the house of the Lord, I will seek thy good."
• Write this down: "Where have I been treating the house of the Lord like an obstacle course instead of a destination?"
• Repeat this line when worship feels exhausting: "I was glad when they said unto me, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord.'"
Selah
Stop. Breathe. Let your feet finally stand inside the gates, then tell Him exactly where you need gladness restored — out loud if you can.
Prayer
God, I want to be glad when they say to me, "Let us go into the house of the Lord."
You have brought me to a city where the tribes go up to give thanks to Your name, and I have been treating it like a chore.
Restore the foot-on-stone gladness of arriving inside Your gates with people who love You.
Peace be within Your walls, and prosperity within Your palaces.
For my brothers' and sisters' sake, let me seek the good of Your house, because You dwell there.
You're still my Shepherd.
Stay Strong
The house was always the destination — and gladness still waits inside the gates.
